New Forest Mills is joint venture of Atlantic Packaging and Mitchel-Lincoln Packaging and is the first new containerboard mill in Canada in over 25 years. Atlantic Packaging manufactures a wide range of corrugated products and is the largest private sector employer in Scarborough.
At New Forest, large bales of recovered cardboard arrive 24/7, 365 days a year. The company re-pulps raw recovered product by removing contaminants using over 1,000 gallons of water per ton of material. Finished pulp is then pumped for processing into finished linerboard through a four stage process: forming, pressing, dressing and finished hand rolling. The process from raw bales to finished rolls works in perfect synchronization and produces approximately 1,000 metric tons of recycled material per day. 600,000 tons of waste cardboard are recycled annually.
Participants on this tour will be met by trained guides who will lead you on a complete walk-through of this unique facility where you will experience the entire recycling process from incoming raw stock to finished rolls. The tour will be approximately one hour in length. Safety vests and ear plugs will be provided. Please wear flat soles street shoes.
This event will be preceded by an IPVF Council Networking Luncheon at the Delta Hotel Toronto East.
