The Internet of Things (IoT) - the Opportunities and Impact of Connected HVACR Equipment and Devices.
Bill MacGowan of Cisco Systems will share some truly game-changing ideas with the CMPX mechanicals industry audience – everyone will see both impact and opportunity.
With billions of connected devices projected in the next 5 years, the HVACR industry will not be immune to the increasing expectation of their customers to save money, access new services and increase comfort. This trend presents opportunities for manufacturers and service providers to create enhanced services that will have greater value than the intrinsic original cost of the equipment or product.
Thursday, March 17
Low Ambient Air to Water Heat Pumps - An Emerging Renewal Energy Heat Source
Well known hydronics authority John “Siggy” Siegenthaler, P.E. of the engineering firm Appropriate Designs, has a new presentation and new ideas to share.
When it comes to combining heat pumps with hydronics, the common approach has been to use geothermal sources. However, recent advances in “low ambient” air source heat pumps present a viable alternative, even in cold Canadian climates. This session will discuss the basics of low ambient air-to-water heat pumps and give examples of how they can be combined with hydronic heating and cooling distribution systems. It will also compare the performance and cost of such systems to that of a geothermal-source water-to-water heat pump system.

What You Need To Know About Changing Refrigerants and Refrigerant Regulations
If you, or your business deals with refrigerants, you need to be at Rajan Rajendran’s Keynote Breakfast Session. Rajan Rajendran is vice president, System Innovation Center and Sustainability at Emerson Climate Technologies.
The refrigeration landscape continues to change. The new generation of HFC refrigerants are ‘under fire’ as government regulations globally push manufacturers to devise lower global warming potential (GWP) products. Environment Canada and the EPA (US) have introduced proposed regulations to curb the use of high GWP refrigerants.
New refrigerants and traditional alternatives are being introduced with different composition and characteristics compared to the past and present refrigerants used today. The supply chain will need to change (again) to deal with these new refrigerants and their uses. This session will provide attendees with an overview of what GWP refrigerants will mean to the RAC industry, what types of new refrigerants will be used in HVACR equipment and systems and what the regulatory landscape that is driving these changes looks like.
