How Can Our System of Codes and Standards Be Improved?
May 30, 2016
Canada has one of the best systems of codes and standards in the world. To keep improving on the system, the Canadian Commission of Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) has undertaken a review of Canada’s Code Development System and Process.
The first phase consists of a review of the system (partners, goals, funding) and collecting recommendations.
One of the recommendations was for the CCBFC to share this report with the observers at the JTG CDSR meetings and key stakeholders of the codes development system to seek their feedback on the report. This feedback is intended to inform the CCBFC discussion of the report at the June 2016 meeting.
The second phase of the JTG CDSR - a review of the process - is now underway and a separate draft report will be shared with you on findings and recommendations related to the codes development process in 2017.

The CCBFC would appreciate your feedback on the following questions:
- Do you have any comments on the recommendation identified in the report?
- Can you support the recommendations? If not, where do you find difficulty?
- Are there additional recommendations that you or your organization would like to offer?
CIPH is collecting member comments and will be making a submittal to the Commission. We would like your comments submitted no later than Friday, June 3rd.
Please submit all comments directly to Kevin Wong at firstname.lastname@example.org
