Historically Nunuvut has not adopted the National Building Code, National Fire Code, National Plumbing Code or the National Energy Code for Buildings Model Codes… until today. Ref http://www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/eng/solutions/advisory/codes_centre/code_adoption.html

Adopting the national codes models allows for harmony in the adoption and enforcement of building regulations across Canada. It allows our system of trades, codes and product standards to be integrated to build infrastructure that is safe and resilient in Canada. At the end of the day, it ultimately safeguards all Canadians.

CIPH applauds Nunuvut on this development and encourages timely automatic adoption of ALL the national model codes among the provinces and territories. National harmony brings stability and resilience in Canada’s built environment system.
