Dear Member,

February 8, 2018 will mark the 85th Anniversary of the Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating. Established in Montreal, the founding members recognized the need to lobby the government of Canada to amend the Dominion Housing Act to encourage renovation and housing starts. The founding members recognized as individual company’s they had little power but together, as one unified voice, they could be heard. Ivan Leger of the James Robertson Company became the first President and the nine founding members left a legacy of vision, purpose and a commitment that continues to this day.

The drive for change through collaboration that was established decades ago is exactly what we continue to pursue today. CIPH is fortunate to have a deep field of visionary leaders who contribute their time and energy to assist in recognizing new opportunities with innovative strategic solutions.

Over the past 85 years the Institute has focused on meeting the needs of the membership and the industry at large. The Institute has now grown to include nine active Regions across Canada representing more than 284 member companies and we have strong recognizable voice nationally and internationally.

CIPH exists for the following reasons: to provide learning opportunities; to provide knowledge through publications and research; and to bring members together to interact and share ideas through online forums, social media, conferences and meetings. Importantly to CIPH members, we exist to provide advocacy at a local, national and international scale on uniformity and harmonization of plumbing and heating standards, regulations and codes.

Surrounded by a great team, a phenomenal CIPH Board of Directors and a wonderful network of volunteers from coast to coast to coast CIPH has made strong gains over the past year three years in moving forward key initiatives and as we continue to embark on our road to excellence. These strategic initiatives include:

  • Be the national organization that is the voice of the industry;
  • Ensure that Canada’s top 50 municipalities are aware of what CIPH can do for them;
  • Drive harmonization of codes and standards through timely adoption;
  • Develop an extensive training curriculum that will become an important contributor to gross revenue;
  • Be fully bilingual;
  • Establish a more diverse Board of Directors;
  • Increase membership and ensure that the dues schedule is structured appropriately to ensure the financial sustainability of CIPH;
  • Support a common database solution for members.

We are moving in the right direction but we still have work to do.  Be assured we do not rest on our laurels as we continue to strive to provide you with meaningful programs, services and networking opportunities.

Thank you sincerely for your valued support and commitment for making the past 85 years successful. CIPH is here for you! Let us know how we can serve you best!

Sincerely,

Ralph Suppa, CAE
