The Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (L'Institut canadien de plomberie et de chauffage) is a not for profit trade association founded in Montreal in 1933. They are the Manufacturers, Wholesaler Distributors, Master Distributors, Manufacturers' Agents and allied companies who manufacture and distribute plumbing, hydronic heating, industrial, waterworks and other mechanical products. CIPH Wholesalers operate over 600 warehouses and showrooms across Canada. Over 10,000 Canadians are directly employed by CIPH members. Total industry sales exceed $4 billion.

CIPH/ICPC offices are located in Toronto. The Institute is governed by an elected 17 member Board of Directors and an 8 Member Executive/Finance Committee. It has a full-time staff of 9. CIPH operates through a Manufacturers' Division and a Wholesalers' Division. There are five active councils: the Plumbing Industry Advisory Council (PIAC), the Manufacturers' Agents Council, Education & Training Council, the Industrial Pipe Valve and Fittings Council, and the Canadian Hydronics Council (CHC). CHC is the voice of the Canadian hydronics industry and has undertaken to produce a Canadian Hydronics Standard.

The Institute operates nine active Regions (British Columbia, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic and Newfoundland). Members meet regularly to conduct business, educational and social programs. Industry training seminars are presented. Topics covered include: leadership, customer service, sales skills, profit management and product knowledge. Over 30 Region meetings are held annually with total attendance exceeding 1,600 members. Each Region has an elected Board assisted by a hired Co-ordinator. The Regions are funded from CIPH general revenue.

Committees include: ABC, (the Annual Business Conference), Membership, Nominating, Government Relations and Charity. The CIPH Charity Committee has raised over $3.5 million for Habitat for Humanity Canada since 1994. There are Show Committees for: the Mécanex/Climatex, CIPHEX (West & Ontario), and MEET Moncton. CIPH owns and operates CIPHEX (West & Ontario) and co-owns and operates the Mecanex/Climatex a joint venture with CMMTQ and CETAF. These are regional plumbing, heating, cooling, piping shows. MEET is a joint show, produced by several Atlantic Canada Associations, including CIPH Atlantic Region. ISH North America is a new joint venture international show co-owned with ASA, PHCC and Messe Frankfurt. CIPH shows attract over 30,000 qualified buyers including wholesalers, contractors, architects, engineers, designers, builders, renovators and retailers.

CIPH publishes an industry newsletter "Pipeline". Circulation exceeds 3,500. CIPH collects and issues important industry statistics available only from the Institute including the annual Wholesalers’ Profit Report.

CIPH is a founding member of the “Partners in Distribution Excellence”. The partners are CHRAW: Canadian Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Wholesalers’ and The Electro Federation. The group sponsors the annual Canadian Business Schools of Distribution and other valuable training programs such as profit management and the Inside Sales Skills Correspondence Course.

CIPH is a member of the National Assoc. of Wholesale Distributors (NAW), the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the American Supply Assoc (ASA), CSA International, the Electronic Commerce Council of Canada (ECCC), the World Plumbing Council, and the Association Education Alliance (AEA), the Canadian Water and Waste Water Association (CWWA), the Manufacturers' Representatives Educational Research Foundation (MRERF), and the Radiant Panel Association (RPA). It is a founding member of CACP (Canadian Advisory Council Plumbing), and the Safe Drinking Water Systems Coalition. CIPH maintains close working relations with Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC), the Plumbing, Heating-Cooling Contractors - National Association (PHCC), the Canadian Association of Pump Manufacturers (CAPM), the Canadian Water Quality Association (CWQA), the Canadian Copper & Brass Development Association (CCBDA), and the Plumbing Manufacturers' Institute (PMI).
