Get a firm understanding of the controls required for the safe installation of hot water boilers, as taught by instructor Dave Hughes.

  • The purpose of typical boiler operating devices
  • The purpose of typical microprocessors
  • Installation practices for typical microprocessor components

This module is recommended for installers who want to learn, refresh, or update their knowledge on the latest in hydronic practices.

Speaker Bio(s):

Dave Hughes is currently the Associate Chair (Special Projects) for the Pipe Trades program at NAIT. He is a Journeyman Plumber, Gasfitter A, Steamfitter/Pipefitter and educator graduating from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Vocational Education Majoring in Instructional Media Design and Instructional Technology. Dave is currently in his 23rd year with NAIT.

Dave is a second-generation plumber and educator having followed both parents into their respective fields. In addition to his regular duties at NAIT and drawing on his background, Dave worked to facilitate the construction and implementation of the Hydronic designer and Hydronic Installer certification programs for the Canadian Hydronics Council.

Active in the industry through his involvement with many organizations, Dave is currently the Chair of the Plumbing Technical Council for the Alberta Safety codes Council, Vice-chair of the Canadian Hydronics Council, Vice-chair of the CSA B214 Technical Committee. Dave is also participates in the regional CIPH and MCA activities.
