Q) What is the best career advice you ever received?

A) Don't grow the business on the backs of your employees.

Q) If you could go back in time and give your younger self career advice, what would it be?

A) Don't ever set limits to what you can accomplish. You can be a great mother and business person simultaneously by paying attention to work/life balance.
Q) How did you get your start in the plumbing & heating industry?

A) I started at Red River College in Carpentry (I was the only female in the course), but realized it was not the right career fit for me. A few years later I started as an Admin for a family owned plumbing company, and found my love for the industry.

Q) What is the most unusual job you have ever had (in any industry)?

A) I am not sure if it is unusual, but I used to install in-ground sprinkler systems. After that, I attended Red River College and did some roofing work for my summer practicum. It was when I was a snowboard instructor that I realized I really love working outdoors and teaching others.

Q) Best vacation ever was…

A) Backpacking through Thailand in 2016 with my husband and 10-year-old son. We hiked in the jungle, immersed ourselves in the culture and bonded as a family. I recently returned to Asia with a great friend I met through the industry.

Q) LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram?

A) LinkedIn for business purposes.

Q) Best business book you have ever read.

A) I only read nonfiction, and mainly history related books.

Q) What are you reading now?

A) I just finished Into the Wild by Jack Krakauer - while on vacation. The end of the book eludes to Jack's novel Into Thin Air, where he participates in the climb of Mt. Everest. It is truly amazing what a person can accomplish when they have the will and drive to never give up.

Q) What do you like best about this industry?

A) I have always loved trades. I remember being no older than 7 years old and nailing sheathing to the framed walls of our home my father was building. Whether it is the smell of drywall mud, the sound of hammering nails, or the sight of a mechanic shop turning wrenches - I enjoy it all. I predominantly favor the plumbing industry due to ever changing technology, specifically the focus on conservation of water.

Q) What is your current job and what do you love about it?

A) I have been an outside Sales Representative at Jones Goodridge for over 10 years, and love my job. I enjoy training my customers on plumbing - no matter what level they are at when they enter the industry. This industry is ever changing, and I really enjoy being able to learn about new products and technologies by our various plumbing manufacturers. It is rewarding to be able to provide feedback to our Canadian manufacturers and be part of the process to bring new products to the market.

Q) Is there anything else you would like to share with CIPH Women’s Network members?

A) Be the best version of yourself you can be. Set your goals high and create a long-term plan of how to attain your goals, and be willing to take risks along the way. If you have the self-motivation to succeed, confidence in yourself, and strive to work hard – your accomplishments are limitless!
