Energy Efficiency Regulations for Electrical or Hydrocarbon-Fueled Appliances

On May 3, 2017, the Quebec Cabinet adopted Order in Council 434-2017 enacting the Regulation respecting the energy efficiency of electrical or hydrocarbon-fueled appliances.


The new regulations cover a wide range of products including:

  • Gas, oil and electric domestic water heaters
  • Gas, oil and electric heating boilers
  • Air conditioners and heat pumps
  • Ground and water source heat pumps
  • Gas and oil furnaces
  • Chillers
  • Ceiling fans
  • Plus many other lighting units, household appliances and electronic devices

The new regulations have been published in the Gazette officielle du Quebec on May 17, 2017 and come into force on August 15, 2017.
