On Tuesday June 23, 2020 CIPH and MCAC Canada hosted a virtual Town Hall Meeting with Government to address Climate Change, Building Codes and Skilled Trades.
The intent of the virtual Town Hall Meeting was to focus on various top priorities such as COVID-19 involvement of Mechanical and Plumbing Sectors, Importance of climate change in economic recovery and Facilitating new technology applications in Canada’s building stock.
Throughout the discussion it was stated that collaboration between all parties is more important than ever. Working hand-in-hand will be vital for the success of government programs and for the success of small and medium-sized businesses.
The conversation ended with a question of “How do we get there?” There were various suggestions on how working hand in hand looks like: Federal/Provincial/Territorial collaboration on modernized building codes and equipment standards is critical. Rolling out updates more quickly will help businesses grow and create less red-tape for consumers. Modern products will provide better comfort, health and sanitation and are better for the environment when properly installed.
Overall the virtual meeting brought out great discussions between all parties. The key is getting all departments working together.
