CIPH is pleased to announce that Dave Hughes has joined the Institute as Technical Consultant for Codes & Standards.
Dave will assume an advisory role for staff and our members to better serve core competencies/constituencies and the industry in general. This includes coordinating with the association’s technical operation as well as educational programs.
Dave's key responsibilities will also include: •Providing CIPH staff with advice on codes, standards and regulatory activities of all products in every vertical and on the impact of codes/standards in areas such as national model codes, provincial codes and municipal bylaws. •Providing technical and policy guidance and support in government relations activities at the provincial and federal levels including energy efficiency and water conservation initiatives. •Assisting in the response to changes in codes, standards and regulations with staff. •Providing education and training on codes and standards process and changes to members and their employees.
Dave comes to CIPH with over 40 years of experience in the plumbing and heating industry and has worked with gas, boiler systems, solar thermal water heating systems, radiant floor heating systems, hydronic system controls, and residential and commercial hydronic system design. He has served as chair of the Canadian Hydronics Council, and vice-chair of the CSA B214 Technical Committee. Dave is currently serving as the chair of the Plumbing Sub-Council within Alberta’s Safety Codes Council. Dave has recently retired after 27 years, from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) after leading and instructing within the Plumber, Gasfitter, and SteamFitter-Pipefitter program areas. Active in the hydronics industry, Dave spearheaded the creation and implementation of the CHC Certified Hydronic Designer and Hydronic Installer programs.
