The Greater Toronto Area Cogeneration Plant is a combined cycle natural gas and steam power station owned by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority in Mississauga. The plant is primarily used to supply steam (for heating and cooling) and power to Toronto Pearson International Airport with surplus power sold onto the Ontario grid.

Participants attending this unique event hosted by CIPH’s Industrial PVF Council will have the opportunity to tour the two GTAA facilities adjacent to each other; the Central Utilities Plant (CUP) and the Cogeneration Facility.

The CUP supplies facilities at the airport with space heating and cooling, via pipelines, with a combination of four 1,250 ton electrical drives, two 2,000 ton steam drive chillers and four 65,760-lb/hr package boilers normally fueled by natural gas, with number two fuel oil as backup.

The GTAA Cogeneration facility, when online, supplies steam to the CUP that can used to for heating or cooling to optimize electrical and natural gas consumption.

This event will be preceded by an IPVF Council Networking Luncheon at the Westin Toronto Airport Hotel - Plaza B Room.
