CIPH in 2033

2018 is just around the corner and with it CIPH will celebrate its 85th Anniversary. It is an exciting milestone but for those currently in the industry, odds are next year might not look all that different from today.

But let’s look ahead to 2033 and contemplate what is likely to change by the time CIPH turns 100.

If people are going to fundamentally need water in the same ways they do today; and it is going to be fundamentally delivered in in the same ways, then our industry is well positioned to continue to contribute to prosperity in the world.

With that established the question shifts to the “who” and the “how”.

In terms of the how, there is no doubt that technology will significantly influence available products and how they are made and sold but the who is harder to define. Many in our industry today will have exited the industry by 2033 and it has been a long-standing concern of members to identify, recruit and retain talent for the future.

CIPH initiated CareerTap a few years back to address this concern and last year, under this banner, we discovered new opportunities in the form of JDC Central and JDC West. These are two events where students from across the country compete in business analysis, debate, philanthropy and more. CIPH’s sponsorship provides access to 1200 enthusiastic business students, all of who will be entering the job market.

Our goal is simple, to use this engagement opportunity to tell the story of the amazing and diverse career opportunities present within our industry. This is done through interaction with industry ambassadors (CIPH Volunteers) and if you would like to be one in Halifax (January 5-7) or Calgary (January 12-14) please reach out

These competitions are a whirlwind and there is no way our ambassadors can reach every single participant…but you can through CareerTap!

One of the unique features of CIPH’s sponsorship is access to a resume database of all participants, many of which will be entering the workforce just a few months later. Last year we posted this database online for our members. We strongly encourage you to access it and consider reaching out to students as part of your recruitment strategies.

To make sure our industry has the talent it needs to thrive in the future we all need to do more than post current opportunities and hope to fill them. We need to proactively target the leaders of tomorrow and show them how this industry contributes and how it can be an exciting platform upon which to grow a rewarding career and life. This sponsorship is part of that strategy and we encourage members to leverage it as best they can.
