The Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH) and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCA Canada) jointly held another highly successful Parliamentary Day of Awareness on May 7 & 8, 2018 in Ottawa sponsored by Senator Donald Plett. Key executives of both associations met with over 40 senior officials and Parliamentarians to enhance the profile of the industry in government circles and discuss two key items of mutual concern, specifically the need for Prompt Payment Legislation in Canada and Uniform and Harmonized Model Codes and Regulations for Canada & Canada/USA.

By engaging with so many influential officials and elected representatives, CIPH and MCAC were able to drive home our positions on the need for Prompt Payment Legislation and for Uniform and Harmonized Model Codes and Regulations for Canada & Canada/USA. CIPH was able to coordinate a meeting of NRC, NRCan, Environment Canada and the Treasury Board Secretariat to address timely adoption of model codes using the Canadian Free Trade Agreement. In addition, these meetings served to further reinforce the status of both associations as the “go-to voice” for regulators, government officials and other key influencers who deal with issues affecting our industry.

“This initiative is a powerful demonstration of the strength of CIPH in representing the industry in front of those making important regulatory decisions that impact all of us. The 2018 event resulted in new contacts, fresh, innovative ideas and tangible progress on several priority issues for CIPH and MCA Canada.  It was an outstanding ‘Day on the Hill’!” reported CIPH President & General Manager Ralph Suppa.

CIPH kicks off its annual day on the hill in Ottawa meeting with senior economic officials at the USA Embassy addressing NAFTA; rules of origin; and alignment of North American standards.
